The Stooges
From The Great Outdoor Fight
Three months before they would begin recording their iconic album Fun House, The Stooges accepted an invitation to appear as the entertainment for the Great Outdoor Fight of 1970. According to first-hand accounts of the performance, the band showed up fifteen minutes before they were to go on, in a state of extreme intoxication. The sight of so much blood drove Iggy Pop into a frenzy; he completely disconnected from the rest of the band, instead scuttling around the chicken-wire enclosure shouting advice to any fighters within his range of vision.
Their experiences were supposedly channeled into a song called "Murder, I Say Murder", although this cannot be confirmed as Elektra Records deemed the song too raw for release, and The Stooges have refused all requests to play it in concert.
