The Jeeps
From The Great Outdoor Fight
The Jeeps are used to end the Fight when more than one man attempts to claim a victory or when the men attempt to resolve the fight through means other than with their knuckles. The first time the Jeeps were seen was in 1962 when the Schweitz triplets attempted to claim a joint victory. Their end was quick and gruesome and since then, the threat of the Jeeps has kept the Fight pure. Only one man can win the Great Outdoor Fight. When the Jeeps are used to end the Fight, there is no winner.
The adoption of the Jeeps was the result of Chris Matta's 1958 victory which was acheived not through fighting prowess but through base bribery. After the humiliation which was the 1958 Fight, the Ruling Body met and discussed appropriate measures to discourage conduct untrue to the spirit of the Fight. The Jeeps were deemed appropriate and since 1959, the Jeeps have been kept outside of the Acres in Lot 1.
The first Jeeps used in the Fight were two 1944 Willys MB Jeeps donated by 1950 champion Isaiah Jerrod Hooker. These were supplanted in 1982 with the purchase of three 1980 CJ-7s by the ruling body. The original Jeeps are part of the permanent display at the Great Outdoor Fight Museum.
The Jeeps are maintained by Lawrence "Larry" Murphy, a volunteer and third runner-up in the 1978 Fight. He is co-owner of D&M's Auto Repair and Machine Shop.

[edit] 1962
The Schweitz triplets attempted to claim a three-man joint victory to end the 1962 Fight. The Ruling Body brought out the Jeeps. The triplets are buried in the field southeast of the Acres.
[edit] 2006
The Son of Rodney called out the Jeeps in the 2006 Fight rather than fight his best friend, "Roast Beef". In an improbable but no less fascinating and exciting sequence of events, So-Rod rendered a crude Molotov Cocktail from the remaining brandy in his possession. Using the incendiary, he successfully stopped one of the Jeeps, commandeered it (after making Cowboy Sauce out of the driver) and proceeded to destroy the majority of the infrastructure present at the Acres: the Fence and Tower One. See the main article for more details on the outcome of the 2006 Fight.
