Shirley Randolph
From The Great Outdoor Fight
Shirley Randolph (186?-1910) was one of the few women to have won the Great Outdoor Fight. At the time forbidden by by-laws from participating (she was of Irish descent) she entered the fight under the assumed identity of Isreal Cake. Considered one of the greatest strategists of the Fight, she quickly found protection in the largest of the armies that had formed that day, The Gullied Trousers, led by the fabled "Gibberish" Jack Lanski. Her masterful plans ensured that Lanski would protect her and on the third day, when the five surviving Trousers finally turned on each other, her slight, feminine frame meant that she was not considered a threat and she was left alone. When "Gibberish" Lanski had finished off the last of his lieutenants (whose name is lost to us, but is described in one eye-witness account as "a Mexican gentlemen of surprising stature"), Shirly Randolph garroted him with her fake beard.
