Paul Judas

From The Great Outdoor Fight

Paul "Judas" Holmes, while technically a brilliant fighter, is perhaps the most hated champion in the history of the Great Outdoor Fight, aside from the infamous Chris Matta.

[edit] The First Judas Incident

Paul Holmes first came to prominence in 1969, when he was the sole member of the army of Motor City Massacre. Owing his life to the Massacre after the Champion saved him from being murdered from behind in the opening scrum, Holmes fought with MCM the entire first day, primarily taking out fighters waiting for their chance to challenge the seemingly unstoppable Man from Detroit. He spent the second day resting, protected by the Massacre's mystique.

On the third day, however, while MCM was engaged with the only remaining fighter of the rest of the field, Paul attempted to attain glory for himself by ambushing both other combatants from behind. The enraged Massacre, injured for the first time in the Fight, promptly clubbed down the traitor with the body of his other opponent.

[edit] Between '69 and '76

Paul Holmes, called Judas as a result of Massacre's last recorded words ("Goddamn Judases everywhere I look"), fought again in '71 and '73. Both times, he went down quickly, as none would allow him into their armies.

[edit] The Second Judas Incident

In 1976, after a three-year absence, Paul Holmes returned to the Fight. Having stayed under cover for this time, few people who remembered why Holmes was called Judas remained, many having been taken out naturally by the rigors of the Fight. This year in particular there were several young turks new to the Great Outdoor Fight scene, gifted fighters who knew very little about the history of the the Fight. Judas was able to attract a number of followers by bragging about the fact that he was the only fighter ever to hurt the Motor City Massacre.

In fact, it was not clear until the end of the fight how successful his recruiting had been. Judas managed to amass two sizeable armies, obscuring the fact that he lead both through the use of clever disguises and by offering his share of the Turkey Dinner to his troops, so as not to have to attend the dinner in person. Using his two armies, Judas wiped all other factions off the field in the early part of day three. At that point, he would again earn the Soubriquet Rouge of Judas by throwing his two armies against each other, finishing off the exhausted fighters that remained of the victorious army sometime around 3 P.M.

[edit] Afterwards

Paul Holmes has not been seen since. It is unclear whether he is alive, hiding from the enraged followers of the Fight, or dead at their hands. A popular rumor suggests that Motor City Massacre, having heard about what Judas did in '76, came out of hiding to kill him, but there is no proof of this.
