Lauren Bennett

From The Great Outdoor Fight

Jump to: navigation, search

Lauren Bennett was a war widow from Belgium, who entered The Fight in 1920 to fulfill the dream of her deceased husband, becoming the second woman to win The Fight.

Near sunset on Day 3 she confronted Otto Ottoman, the Austrian sniper who had killed her husband, to take the Championship. The honor and dignity she showed in the fatal battle with that scarred war veteran harkened back to an earlier era in the Great Outdoor Fight's history. The battle was forever immortalized in The Hands of Lauren Bennett, a short short story by Ernest Hemingway.
