The last two men standing on day three of the 1982 Fight, Junior Jones and his brother, Alphonso, stated their intention to face the Jeeps rather than fight each other. Once the Jeeps were on the field, however, Alphonso lost his nerve and turned on his brother, forcing Junior to punch his jaw off.

He did not fare nearly as well in future Fights, only entering one more consecutive year before largely disappearing from public view.

Eventually, in 2006, he was asked by the Ruling Body (via e-mail) to verify Blood Of Champion for Algernon Tobias Stark, great-grandson of 1906 Champion Carey Morgan. The ensuing fight was long and brutal, and Jones, in an attempt to prove that he was not succumbing to age, refused to submit for twelve hours, until a tired and irritated Stark finally kicked his head cleanly from his shoulders.
