Jebediah Crandall and his Amazing Banjo Skills

From The Great Outdoor Fight

Jump to: navigation, search

Ken Crandall's grandfather and an indisputed master of the banjo, Jebediah Crandall wandered into the melee toward the end of Day 1 1851 to "see if [his] pickin' cain't distract them from their fightin' for a spell." Despite Ken's warnings, Jebediah sat on a tree stump toward the middle of the carnage and began to play. It wasn't long before appreciative fighters ceased their hostilities and gathered around to listen to the elder Crandall's music.

Regrettably, unappreciative fighters were also in attendance. Legend has it that one of them, angry at the interruption, hurled a whiskey bottle at Jebediah Crandall; Jebediah caught it in his teeth and sent it hurtling back at his assailant without missing a note. Regardless of the truth behind this story, it's indisputable that Jebediah Crandall started two of the Fight's long-standing traditions: the tradition of having Entertainment at the end of Day 1, and the tradition of putting said entertainment on a stage protected by chicken wire.
