(b. 1934) A prolific American writer of short stories and novels, particularly known for his work in science fiction. For more information on Mr. Ellison's career, click here.

It is not well-known that Ellison participated in the 1958 Fight. Having been introduced to the Fight via the members of a street gang he joined in 1957, Ellison took advantage of his temporary leave from a post within the Army to join the Fight as a contender. Ellison proved himself to be a strong fighter, remaining until Day 2 with ease. However, early in the morning, Ellison found himself exposed to the scandalous tactics of Chris Matta. He immediately denounced the other Fighters in obscene terms, scaled the fence, and walked off into the sunset fuming. Despite reforms, Ellison would never join the Fight again.

Historian Richard Suliman has speculated that, had he been involved in a cleaner Fight, he might have easily proved to be Champion material.
