Both a high and a low point in the "80s Slump", the fugue of Fauntleroy Brown brought flair and color to what had promised to be yet another dull Fight but left the field deprived of worthy fighters for nearly a decade. 1984, appropriately enough, nearly brought about a Congressional investigation of the Great Outdoor Fight. Fortunately the personal intervention of President Ronald Reagan, a long-time fan of the Fight, closed this case before any subpoenas could be issued.
[edit] Trivia
- Johnny Cash and his band, the Highwaymen, including Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, were scheduled to play at the Fight, but the concert was cancelled due to Brown's fugue.
