Carey Morgan

From The Great Outdoor Fight

Jump to: navigation, search

1906 Champion. Carey Morgan was noted for gentlemanly behavior and a genteel bearing. He was one of the last adherents to a sense of pugilistic honor in the Fight. He was also capable of withstanding a tremendous amount of damage, and left the field as Last Man Standing with seventeen open wounds on his body.

In 1907, Morgan was one of those who saw Boris Kowalewski brutally beat Eliza Waddle to death. Outraged -- as several were -- over what seemed an absolutely gruesome and unnecessarily brutal attack on Waddle, Morgan and four others attacked Kowalewski, killing the man in under five minutes.

Having seen such a brutal assault on a woman (who admittedly had no business in the Fight, having neither endurance, strength nor training), followed by participating in a summary judgment against her murderer which he felt was fair, but barbaric, Morgan lost all heart for the fight. He engaged the already infamous Triskadekans and their leader Buck Faast. Taunting them and drawing them out, Morgan took a truly heroic amount of punishment, but clearly didn't truly resist. In the end, the 1906 Champion succumbed to their assaults. He died of blood loss and internal injuries some hours later.
