Black Watch
From The Great Outdoor Fight
The Black Watch was the army formed by Jeremiah Merryman in response to the Blood Mercenaries of Wilford Geldum and Johnny "Snakeskin" Lakesbin. Geldum and Lakesbin, both infamous participants in the 1958 Corruption Scandal, had returned to the Fight with the money they had received to take dives in the Fight on Chris Matta's behalf, and paid 200 Fighters $10 apiece plus promised bonuses to fight on their behalf until no one but the Blood Mercenaries remained.
Merryman's army was made up of volunteers -- mostly seasoned veterans -- who despite being outnumbered at all times by the Blood Mercenaries managed to tear them down one by one, until finally none were left but Merryman, Geldum and Lakesbin themselves. Merryman was able to defeat the pair of corrupt Fighters, and went on to win the 1959 Fight.
It is thought that the Black Watch's actions redeemed the reputation of the Great Outdoor Fight at a critical time.
